What a visceral and compelling piece of writing Crumpet. You helped us all understand what life through your eyes is like. Interesting, to say the least.
I have not done EMDR personally but have had it recommended to me on many occasions. I've done some research and it seems like a very useful technique. Do your research, give it a shot and if it turns out to not work for you or doesn't feel right, stop. It's your treatment program. You're in control.
Good luck to you,

My First Counselling Session. EDMR anybody?
by Crumpet inso it hadn't escaped my attention that two weeks ago i was melting faster than a snowman on a lava flow path.. i had to do something.
i ended up in hospital.
i hoped this would mean i'd get help, not just medication, which i've tried for 6 months and hasn't really helped.

Oprah's new Book Club selection - A New Earth - anyone here participating?
by poppers inabout 10 days ago she announced that eckhart tolle's book a new earth is her latest book club selection.
tolle will be appearing with her on a live internet feed for 10 consecutive mondays starting march 3. this is a great opportunity for those who are looking for the ineffable "something" else that they find lacking in their usual pursuits...
this isn't the usual kind of book that she promotes.

Yes, it's very interesting to watch the forums unfold. You can see the fundies in action. It's funny, a customer picked up the book the other day and said, "I thought Oprah was a Christian. Why can't she just be a Christian? Why does she have to get involved with all this other stuff?"
I explained that the book isn't about religion, it's about spirituality. She didn't get it. But she said she'd read it anyways.
I started re-reading it last night. I get different aha moments each time I read Tolle's work. It's simple but so very profound.

I just signed up for the discussion. I read Power of Now a while back on James Thomas' recommendation. I had just finished reading "A New Earth" shortly before Oprah announced it as her pick.
I work in a bookstore and see people coming in droves to pick up this book. While I want to be optimistic that these people will "get it", part of me sees yet more people getting on the Oprah bandwagon, much like they did with "The Secret". Awakening consciousness is not a fad. Let's hope the message doesn't get lost in the hooplah.

If not for the 'truth' I'd be a serial killer
by coolhandluke inlet me explain that.
i think humans go through these phases where we see things and experience things that begin to callouse our minds.
my dad is an amazing dichotomy of loving and violent.

I always thought I would've ended up a high-class escort if not for the "truth". Not even sure why.

Homage to AlmostAtheist
by KW13 inthat's actually a great opportunity to see if you've got real friend material on your hands or not.
one of my very best friends is one i don't agree with on some important topics.
we discuss them until we each understand the other's point of view and can identify the exact point of divergence.

Thinking of giving it all up!
by eyeslice ini am sure this isn't a mid-life crisis i have done that and got out of the jws.
.
but i am seriously thinking of just leaving the west with its rat race, emphasis on money, senseless tv and media, cars, shopping malls, pre-packaged food, supermarkets, etc, etc, and moving to india to live in a small cottage near a beach somewhere.. anyone else got the urge to get out of the rat-race?.

Glad you liked it Abandoned. It's a great point of growth when we can see the patterns repeating, and yet so utterly frustrating because we can see the hole, but still find it hard to move around it. I'm with ya. Still doin' the same stupid shit I've done in the past. Moving into Chapter 4 and really looking forward to Chapter 5. I wonder what happens on the street without the hole.

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters
by Portia Nelson
Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter 2
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
Chapter 5
I walk down another street.
